This contribution aims to bring to light an important document written by the materialist philosopher Jacques-André Naigeon. Heir to the tradition of Diderot and d’Holbach and a living witness to the materialist wing of the philosophes, Naigeon seeks to adapt to the new challenges of the political world by lashing out against the reference to deity in the Declaration of Rights. He testifies to some of the possibilities of philosophy trying to become political and, more generally, shows how much the secular movement toward secularization owes to a certain type of intellectual engagement.

Abstract
This contribution aims to bring to light an important document written by the materialist philosopher Jacques-André Naigeon. Heir to the tradition of Diderot and d’Holbach and a living witness to the materialist wing of the philosophes, Naigeon seeks to adapt to the new challenges of the political world by lashing out against the reference to deity in the Declaration of Rights. He testifies to some of the possibilities of philosophy trying to become political and, more generally, shows how much the secular movement toward secularization owes to a certain type of intellectual engagement.File in questo prodotto:
