The paper focuses on the novella 'La cardarella' (1523) by the Sienese physician Giustiniano Nelli. It shows its connections with what is mentioned in Sigismondo Tizio’s 'Historiae senenses' and – above all – with 'Il Cardarello', anonymous but maybe to be assigned to Francesco Arzocchi. Then, it highlights the relationship of the work with the 16th-century medical culture. Lastly, it offers a critical edition of the 16th-century novella.
Il saggio approfondisce la conoscenza della novella 'La cardarella' (1523) del medico senese Giustiniano Nelli. Dopo averne mostrato i legami con quanto accennato nelle 'Historiae senenses' di Sigismondo Tizio e – soprattutto – con l’anonimo 'Cardarello', poemetto tardo-trecentesco forse attribuibile a Francesco Arzocchi, evidenzia il rapporto dell’opera con la cultura medica del XVI secolo e, infine, propone l’edizione critica della novella cinquecentesca.
