Osservazioni sul 'Trattato del Cardarello'

The ms. BNCF II IV 248 is the only witness of an anonymous Serventese, 'O morte avventurasa, che a' dolci anni', probably written in the late fourteenth century. It tells the tragic story of two young lovers through the words of the male protagonist. The text presents a very complex physiognomy, both for the richness and variety of the elements that form the plot, and for a certain expressive obscurity. Such obscurity, in many cases, goes as far as to reach the absence of meaning. The paper examines some aspects of the text that allow to trace it back to the genre of love complaint (whose fundamental characteristics are discussed); attempts to identify the cause of the lack of meaning in an anomalous and features of the manuscript, and finally focuses on the fortune of the story narrated in the serventese, which will resurface between the fifteenth and sixteenth century, first in the form of a historical anecdote and then as a novella.

Il ms. BNCF II IV 248 è l'unico testimone di un serventese anonimo, 'O morte avventurosa, che a' dolci anni', ascrivibile presumibilmente alla fine del Trecento. In esso si narra la tragica storia di due giovani amanti attraverso le parole del protagonista maschile. Il testo presenta una fisionomia piuttosto complessa, sia per la ricchezza e varietà degli elementi che formano l'intreccio, sia per una certa oscurità espressiva che, in non pochi casi, si spinge persino all'assenza di significato. Il contributo esamina alcune componenti del testo che permettono di ricondurlo al genere die pianti d'amore, di cui si analizzano le caratteristiche basilari; tenta di individuare la causa della diffusa mancanza di significato in un anomalo quanto peculiare criterio di trasmissione, e infine si concentra sulla fortuna della storia narrata nel serventese, che ricomparirà tra Quattro e Cinquecento dapprima in forma di aneddoto storico e poi di novella.
